Financial services stalwart Ken Davy has been awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year Honours List.
Davy, who founded DBS in 1983, has more than 50 years’ experience in the sector and has become a widely respected figure.
He launched compliance and support services firm SimplyBiz – which aims to provide business and compliance services for directly regulated financial advisers – in November 2002, just a year after selling DBS to Misys.
However, it was not his area of expertise Davy was recognised for – he received his OBE for services to community rugby league football, having been the chairman of Huddersfield Giants since 1996.
The founder of the Financial Technology Research Centre, Ian McKenna, said: “Few if any other people have made such an enormous contribution to the evolution of the financial-advice industry over the last 50 years.
“Legend is a much-overused phrase, but it is fully deserved if you are talking about Ken Davy.”
Additionally, several industry leaders received Orders of the Bath, such as the Department for Work and Pensions chief executive Sarah Albon, who was recognised for services to public administration.
HM Treasury director-general Jessica Glover, DWP director-general Catherine Vaughan and UK Infrastructure Bank chief executive officer John Flint all received orders for public service.
Congratulations Ken, you are indeed a Legend and have made a significant contribution to both Community Rugby and the Personal Finance Profession!
Best Wishes
